Book Shelf: Five Ways to Fall (Ten Tiny Breaths #4) by K.A. Tucker

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Review:

Five Ways To Fall is the delicious fourth installment in K.A. Tucker’s highly addictive Ten Tiny Breaths series and is another expertly written and sensual romance that finally sees self assured and cheeky stud Ben Morris meet his match in a purple haired stunner whose sharp mouth and wit rival his own!

There’s no doubt in my mind that K. A. Tucker is a very talented writer. Ever since I read the first book in this series, Ten Tiny Breaths I have been blown away by her ability to write complex and layered characters and weave them together in emotional and driven storylines that explore their lives and emotions. Each story has been unique and gripping in it’s own right, and Five Ways To Fall is no exception.

We first met the larger than life Ben Morris in Ten Tiny Breaths when he attempted to win the heart of then leading lady Kacey, and although he wasn’t successful in that pursuit, he has continued to be a feature in this series as one of the many minor characters to give it extra life and flair. Ben has always been someone I was looking forward to getting to know and its in Five Ways To Fall that he finally gets his chance!

Told through the dual POV’s of Ben and the woman who manages to keep him on his toes, Reese MacKay, Five Ways To Fall follows Ben and Reese as they meet on holiday in Cancun, only to reconnect months later when they discover that they will be working at the same law firm. Sparks fly from the very beginning between these two and soon they find the other may be just what they needed but what neither expected.

Honestly, Benjamin Morris is one of those characters with so much personality. He’s cheeky and cocky and very self assured. He’s a ladies man and he’s sex crazed, but he’s also a really good guy. Personally I’ve always loved Ben, ever since we met him in the first book and with all the small parts he’s had in every book since, I’ve come to love Ben more. And yet I almost wasn’t prepared for the side of Ben I would discover in Five Ways To Fall. The side of him that loves his Mama so deeply and goes out of this way to help those he cares about. Basically I just love Ben Morrishow can you not!

As Ben’s leading lady, Reese is very much a woman scorned; something that is understandably a driving factor behind a lot of her choices in Five Ways To Fall. Coming out of a failed marriage where the man she loved broke her heart, Reese starts out very guarded and against letting Ben into her life and heart. She’s attempting to find her feet after the painful end of her marriage and isn’t in a position where she’s very trusting of men. She very much hides behind her sharp tongue and has walls encased around herself.

Considering that Reese’s childhood wasn’t the easiest and her relationship with her mother is non existent, I really enjoyed seeing Reese let Ben in. It was baby steps with her, but I liked how Reese slowly developed a relationship with not only Ben but those in her life such as her stepfather Jack and stepbrother Mason.

The romance in Five Ways To Fall was sexy from the very beginning. Reese and Ben have great chemistry from the moment they meet and despite their differences, seem to fit each other well. They both have a similar sense of humor and manage to keep the other on their toes. I loved the way Tucker wrote their romance and allowed them to develop a friendship that brought out the best in each other and allowed them to slowly capitalize on the attraction shared and feelings that develop between them.

Rich in sexual tension and chemistry, Five Ways To Fall is another brilliant tale by K.A. Tucker. With it’s loveable characters and humor, Five Ways To Fall will leave you ready to read the next book as soon as it’s released!
