Cream of the Crop is the second novel in Alice Clayton’s Hudson Valley series and is another delightfully sensual and humourful novel full of witty dialogue, saucy moments and wonderfully developed romance.
Natalie Grayson is a born city girl and can’t imagine why anyone would ever set foot outside the concrete jungle of Manhattan, even if she’s always secretly fantasised about giving up her successful job at an ad agency and run away to become a cheesemaker. Her love of cheese saw her attend and then drop out of culinary school in collage where she met her best friend Roxie, and now has her tongue tied over the hottest cheesemaker this side of the Hudson. Dairy farmer Oscar Mendoza is the owner of Bailey Falls Creamery and is tall, dark, handsome, covered in tattoos and seemingly oblivious of Natalie’s crush. Indulging herself every weekend at the Farmers Market where Oscar has a stall is a weekly treat for Natalie, even if she can’t seem to get out more than two words to the mysterious farmer. When a possible ad campaign for Bailey Falls lands in Natalie’s lap, will this be the opportunity for Natalie to finally sample more of Oscar’s wares; the ones she has naughty dreams about at night? And will the city girl and country boy simmer, or curdle?
Ahhhh, another great Alice Clayton novel. I mean, how does she do it? It’s like the woman doesn’t have a bad book in her. As addictive as the first novel, Cream of the Crop sports all the sassy dialogue, laugh out loud and witty banter Clayton is famous for, as well as her sexy as sin romances.
Cream of the Crop features a likable main couple and plenty of sensuality and sexual tension. As well as saucy and steamy sex scenes. I liked that Natalie was a strong, confidant woman. Sure, she’d experienced difficulties with her body imagine in the past and had been through a lot to get where she was, but I liked that she was a bigger girl, not afraid to embrace her curves. And I loved that Oscar not only appreciated her body, but was particularly entranced by it. There’s nothing hotter than a man who appreciates a more curvaceous figure in his woman.
As far as the entertainment factor goes, Clayton hits the nail on the head every time. There’s nothing about this book that isn’t enjoyable and entrancing and like all Clayton tales, I loved every minute of it. It was wonderful following a new romance, but seeing the other characters back too with Roxie, Leo and the adorable Polly appearing in the tale.
I think the set up for the next novel featuring Clara and Archie is perfect and am dying to see what Alice Clayton has in store with the third book Buns. I’m sure it’ll be as good as the first two and then some!
Funny, flirty and wonderfully entertaining, Cream of the Crop is a delightful read you won’t regret devouring!
