Faerie Social Networks
When I was writing the end chapters for The Faerie Guardian, the first book in the Creepy Hollow series, I thought, why shouldn't faeries have their own versions of social networks? Like faerie versions of Twitter and Facebook and all of that? So you'll see a little bit about social networking spells mentioned in the bonus chapters of The Faerie Guardian, and a bit more in The Faerie Prince. These are spells that faeries can use on their mirrors and their amber (the faerie version of cellphones. They write on them with a magical stylus).

I hadn't yet considered what these social networks might be called when Adriana from In Between asked me, "Is, by any chance, Fae'sBook the name of the social network V and Ryn use?" And, of course, it seems obvious that it would be called that, or some variation of it! So today I give you Vi's first time using Faebook on her amber ...

If you want to visit the magical world of Creepy Hollow, get yourself a copy of the brand new The Faerie Prince from the following online retailers (and if you haven't yet read the first book, The Faerie Guardian, you can find out where to get it on this page):

Book Shelf: The Faerie Prince (Creepy Hollow #2) by Rachel Morgan

Guardian trainee Violet Fairdale is just weeks away from one of the most important occasions of her life: graduation. After messing up big time by bringing a human into the fae realm, Vi needs to step up her game and forget about Nate if she hopes to graduate as the top guardian of her year. Everything would be fine if she wasn’t forced to partner with Ryn, her ex-friend, ex-enemy, current ‘sort of friend’. They might be trying to patch up their relationship, but does she really want to spend a week undercover with him for their final assignment? On top of that, the possibly insane Unseelie Prince is still on the loose, free to ‘collect’ as many specially talented faeries as he can find—and Vi is still at the top of his list. Add in faerie queens, enchanted storms, complicated not-just-friends feelings, and a murder within the Guild itself, and graduation is about to become the least of Vi’s problems.

Review:

The Faerie Prince is the heart pounding, heart racing sensational sequel to The Faerie Guardian and is even better than it's predecessor!

Good golly this book was good! Really, really good. Rachel Morgan once more sucks you into her world of Creepy Hollow with her well told, perfectly paced story! Picking up not long after The Faerie Guardian ended, The Faerie Guardian tells the next stage of Violet's story and what a story it is! Set over the course of weeks and even months, there's a lot that happens in this book, but each moment, each situation is very much interesting and entertaining.

The plot developments were exciting and clearly well thought out. There were some I saw coming and others I didn't. The story was fun and fast paced, with plenty of action, romance and humor to keep me very entertained.

I found that I was very happy to be back in this world with these characters again. Morgan has created such a fun faerie world with the minor characters added character to the story and making our lead characters all that more fun to read about. I love Violet! I really do. From the very beginning, she's been such a fantastic heroine to read about and if possible I love her even more having seen her face some of her greatest fears in this book and put her heart on the line. Even though she's pretty awesome to begin with it's nice seeing her grow and actually feel.

And speaking of Violet, you can't talk about her and not mention her used-to-be-arch-nemesis-now-friend-but-maybe-something-more Ryn! Honestly, this guy is so brilliant. I'm seriously in love with him! He's such a great love interest for Vi. She's certainly found her perfect match in Ryn. Seeing the two of them interact is fantastic as they have such a great dynamic! Their interactions are fun and funny and really give The Faerie Prince that little something extra. He may not have been the guy I thought Vi would be with back in the very beginning but as the series progresses I understand why Morgan has explored his and Vi's relationship the way she has. These two have a really nice relationship that sure has had it's issues, especially with their pasts, but as Violet sees a different side to Ryn and he bares his soul it's impossible to not cheer for this two!

And yet, all is not sunshine and rainbows in the world of Creepy Hollow. There are more than a few secrets being kept in this world and with betrayals, shocks and secrets running rampant at the Guild, this book was spectacular with it's twists and turns! Towards the end of the book there are more than a few revelations that left me absolutely gob smacked! Honestly, I'm shocked by some of the revelations Morgan delivered. Now I don't want to give away spoilers away, but they'll certainly change the course of the series. If you think you know who the villain is, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Racing towards a shocking and unexpected ending that will have you on the edge of your seat, The Faerie Prince proves to be not only a fantastic read, but one that will have you dying for the next installment to be released as soon as possible!

Book Shelf: Foretold (The Demon Trappers #4) by Jana Oliver

In the fourth Demon Trappers novel, Riley faces the final battle for humanity and Beck's heart—and Hell is the least of her problems Now that Riley’s managed to (just barely) fend off Armageddon, everything’s changed. Well . . . most things. After their passionate kiss before the big battle in the cemetery, Beck is back to treating her like a little girl, as if nothing ever happened. While she’d love to just tell him off and move on, Riley vowed to take care of Beck the way he’s taken care of her since her father’s death—but she’s about to get a whole lot more than she bargained for. When she’s commissioned to go with Beck to his hometown and help him care for his dying mother, they stumble too close to a dark and murderous secret, one that Beck fears will drive Riley away from him forever. As chaos breaks loose, Riley may be Beck's only hope for redemption . . . and survival.

Meanwhile, up in Atlanta, it’s quickly becoming clear that Heaven may have won a battle, but the war is far from over. Riley and Beck face a stormy future, as Lucifer's ex-right-hand-man, Sartael, proves himself to be more resilient than anyone thought. He has Atlanta in his grip and is about to begin a brutal war with the prince of Hell. As the seconds tick down toward a final confrontation, it's up to Riley and the man she loves to finally defeat their old enemy, or lose everything they've fought for.

Review: (Warning: May contain some spoilers!)

Foretold is the riveting conclusion to Jana Oliver’s The Demon Trappers series and brings about a stunning end to the series in spectacular fashion!

Honestly, I’ve absolutely adored reading this series! Whether it was Jana Oliver’s gripping storyline, harsh, raw world or her incredible characters, this series has managed to steal my heart with every book. Each installment amped up my love for the series even more and as it comes to a close, I’m really not ready to let it go.

Foretold marks the thrilling conclusion to an oh so brilliant series and see’s Riley Blackthorne save the world (again) and finally get her guy once and for all! The Demon Trappers series began with Forsaken, introducing us to Riley Blackthorne, the daughter of a trapper and a teenage girl who lived in a harsh, almost dystopian-like world overrun with demons. As the daughter of a trapper (someone who hunts and traps demons) Riley was somewhat strong, but was also very naïve to the ways of the world. Throughout this series Riley has grown immensely. Having lost her father and been betrayed by someone she thought loved her, Riley has made mistakes and bad decisions, but she also managed to rectify them throughout all four books and has honestly grown into a very capable young woman who is able to handle herself very well on her own and knows exactly who she is.

In Foretold, Riley faces some of her toughest battles yet, including the battle for Denver Beck’s heart. I was thrilled with Riley in this book—I really was. Throughout this series I’ve loved Riley…..but I’ve also hated her at times. Jana Oliver has created such a great heroine in Riley—one who has tugged my heartstrings and yet who has also frustrated me to no end at times. I’ve cried with her and soared with her and having seen her grow, I can honestly say that in the end of Foretold I’ve never loved her more. Riley finds the courage to fight for what she wants, and who she wants, in this book and does so in a so very Riley way!

All of the characters have been brilliant throughout this series. Oliver has introduced us to so many different aspects of this spectacular world throughout the series with demon trappers, demon hunters, witches, necromancers and various others in amongst them all popping up at one time or another, but none was been more brilliant than Denver Beck.

If Riley ever needed a worthy love interest in this series, she certainly found it in Beck. To this day, I still believe that Beck is a standout in YA fiction. He’s a breath of fresh air that’s been so spectacular to read about. Jana Oliver has created an incredible male lead with Beck. There have been other romantic interests for Riley in this series but I think we all knew from the very beginning that Beck was always the one she was meant to be with. Denver Beck is wonderful and frustrating and so, so incredibly sweet. Oliver brought to life a character with strong, powerful morals and a heart of gold in Beck. He’s someone with harsh inner demons who came from no where to really be someone. Thanks in turn to Riley’s late father Paul, Beck managed to fight his inner battles and make a life for himself. As someone who couldn’t read or write, he wanted to better himself and he’s done that. He’s an amazing person at his core and as Beck faces his past in Foretold it only makes him stronger. It’s no wonder he stole Riley’s heart!

As a couple, Riley and Beck have had a tough run. Their relationship has never been a smooth one. They’ve been back and forth; caring for one another so deeply yet both unable to admit to it. They’ve had fallen angels and other trappers to contend with, but after the events of the last book it seemed like they would finally be together only to have them torn apart once more by Becks mysterious past and secrets. I admit, I was really nervous about this book at first. Considering Beck’s stance on his relationship with Riley at the end of Forgiven, I thought we wouldn’t be seeing a lot of him as he continued to push Riley away. Instead Jana Oliver throws these two together every chance she gets and forces them to finally work some things out once and for all. Beck and Riley are sweet and electric and bring out the undeniable best in each other. They strengthen and empower one another and their love is so very beautiful to read about.

Foretold truly is the perfect ending to this series! Jana Oliver has put her characters (and us as well!) through twists and turns and problem after another, and while it’s not the easiest of rides, she brings it to a perfect conclusion in Foretold. So many things are wrapped up, and while I’m heartbroken to leave this world I’ve so come to love spending time in behind, I find myself immensely satisfied with how it all ended.

Book Shelf: Scarlet In The Snow by Sophie Masson

A deserted mansion. Empty picture frames. A perfect red rose in a snowy garden. There is rich and powerful magic here, and a mystery to unravel . . .

When Natasha is forced to take shelter from a sudden, terrible blizzard, she is lucky to see a mansion looming out of the snow. Inside it's beautiful: the fire lit, the table set. But there is no one there. And on the walls, instead of paintings, are empty frames. In the garden, she finds one perfect red rose about to bloom, a vivid splash of scarlet against the snow. Dreamily she reaches out a hand . . . Only to have the master of the house appear - a terrifying, gigantic creature who looks like a cross between a bear and a man - and demand vengeance on her for taking his rose. So begins an extraordinary adventure that will see Natasha plunged deep into the heart of a mystery. She begins to realise she has stumbled onto a great tragedy - a spell of revenge laid on the young man the Beast once was, devised by a powerful sorcerer.

But even if she can break the spell, the Beast she has now come to love will be snatched from her. Natasha will have a long journey, and many ordeals, ahead of her before there can be a happy ending. Inspired by two beautiful Russian fairytales - The Scarlet Flower (the Russian version of Beauty and the Beast) and Fenist the Falcon, Scarlet in the Snow is a beguiling mix of magic, romance, adventure and mystery.

Review:

Scarlet in the Snow by Sophie Masson is a very quaint fairytale retelling, woven together beautiful with Russian folk law.

In all honesty, I'm at a mixed mind when it comes to Scarlet in the Snow. I appreciate what author Sophie Masson has done with this book, but I also felt at times the story fell flat. That being said, while Scarlet in the snow wasn't the best fairytale re-telling I've ever read, I did like it--for the most part.

Beautifully written, Scarlet in the Snow details the story of Beauty and the Beast; mixing romance and danger together with Russian folklaw, and building a story long after the traditional tale of Beauty and the Beast ends.

The biggest draw for me concerning this book was that I enjoyed Sophie Masson's writing style and the fact that Scarlet in the Snow continued on long after where I'd expect the traditional Beauty and the Beast story to end (where the the Beauty professes her love and Beast becomes a man once more). Masson's writing painted a lovely picture of the story within my mind; describing the lucious and magical world within the book in a very rich and detailed manner.

The mythology within Scarlet in the Snow was interesting, nothing I'd ever seen before, although I was a tad confused at times and wished the mythology and magic known to the characters was better explained. The characters, including leading lady Natasha, were likeable, but felt bland in terms of personality and chemistry. The romance, and "love" shared by our Beauty and Beast, unfortunatly, to me, seemed to come on too fast and too soon, and in turn never meant much to me. I understood why Natasha risked all she did, but I never felt it......meaning what was on the line didn't mean as much to me as I wanted it to.

That being said, the story, aside from a few moments when I felt it dragged, was nice enough to read about. I liked how well the author tied everything up and how we left the characters. While this will never be something on my faves list, if you're a fan of fairytale retellings and looking for something fairly quick to read, Scarlet and the Snow may just be the book for you!

Losing It by Cora Carmack

Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor.
