Book Shelf: American Girl On Saturn (Saturn, #1) by Nikki Godwin

The summer after graduation is supposed to be that first real taste of freedom - but not for eighteen-year-old Chloe Branson. Just as that breeze of freedom is making its way into her galaxy, her secret-service-agent dad drops a meteor-sized bomb of bad news on her and her sisters. An attempt has been made on the lives of Canadian boyband, Spaceships Around Saturn, during their USA tour, and the guys have to go into hiding ASAP. The only problem? In the midst of the crisis and media frenzy, their dad volunteered to hide the guys...in their house.

Six-year-old Emery is as ecstatic as any self-proclaimed Saturnite would be, but Chloe and her seventeen-year-old sister Aralie watch their summer plans crash and burn like a falling star. The SAS guys aren't happy with the situation, either. Bad boy Jules picks fights with Aralie about everything from his Twitter followers to his laundry, and heart-throb Benji can't escape Emery's fangirlisms for more than three minutes.

But after the super-cute Milo kisses Chloe during a game of hide-and-seek, she finally understands what Emery means when she talks about SAS being "out of this world." If this is what Saturn feels like, Chloe doesn't want to come back to Earth.

Review:

If ever a book was going to be written with the fan-girl at heart, American Girl On Saturn is it! Insanely sweet, sassy and hilarious, this book will make you sigh, swoon and squeal. Surrender to all things that is Starships Around Saturn with this fun, quirky tale that will have you grinning from ear to ear until the very last page!

When I decided to participate in a book blitz on my blog for American Girl on Saturn it looked like just another great-sounding book that I was sharing with my followers. Little did I realize how much I would want to read the book as I was setting up my post. What can I say? I knew I had to read it.

And I'm so glad I did. Honestly, I did have high expectations when beginning this but luckily for me I was addicted from start to finish. Admittedly, American Girl on Saturn isn't the best book I've ever seen written. Or the deepest, but by golly did I love this book! Author Nikki Godwin has penned my new guilty fan-girl pleasure with this cutesy tale that while sometimes seems over the top and far fetched, is nothing but fun, fun, fun.

Godwin explores many a teenage girls fantasy when Canada's most famous boy-band Starships Around Saturn is forced into lockdown at our main character Chloe Branson's house after an attempt is made on their lives. What follows is a lot of laughs, romance and unexpected friendship as Chloe and her sisters discover the true guys of Starships Around Saturn. If you've ever had a fascination with a boy-band at some point in your life, and lets face it....we all have at some point, American Girl on Saturn is for you!

The characters in the book are so amazing! I'm having to restrain myself from squealing like a fan-girl when I think of the brilliant way Nikki Godwin manages to weave together the very normal Branson girls with and not-so-normal member of Starships Around Saturn. They're all so great to read about and have different personalities. From main character and protagonist Chloe, who is down to earth and sweet and very easy to relate to, to the other Branson sisters; rocker/edgy Arelie and baby sis Emery who has more personality and flair than the entire cast of characters combined...every one made me smile for different reasons.

As the focus of the Branson hysteria and the band themselves, Starships Around Saturn is comprised of serious and sexy Milo, bad-boy Jules, heart-throb Benji, cheeky Tate and wise and trustworthy Noah. In the opening chapters as the boys are introduced, I really worried about having so many characters in this book. I mean, really? Who needs five sexy male characters? Seemed odd to me....until I read the book. Now the answer seems obvious....um, I do! These boys are so well developed and well rounded that each and every one brings something different to the story in one form or another. It's impossible not to love these boys!

Nikki Godwin blends plenty of romance into her story, but there's also a beautiful layer of friendship that shines throughout this novel. I just loved this. In fact, I think it was my favorite part! As Chloe, Aralie and Emery bond with the boys, different relationships form and different bonds are forged between the characters. Unexpected friendships are stuck and seeing how comfortable and trusting they are with each other is beautiful. It's impossible not to squeal over so many cute and funny moments between different characters.

Trying to keep my inner fan-girl in check is hard when I think of this book. There's nothing boring about this story and with all the laughs, fun and sensational character bonding that takes place, American Girl on Saturn is sure to please from beginning to end!

My Recommendation: Read it! That is all I will say.

Will I read sequel/continue with series: I'm hoping and praying this ends up as some kind of series, although I'm not sure how it could. Still. I wouldn't be against picking up something else by Nikki Godwin in the future......
