Review:

Frostblood is Elly Blake's debut novel and is a deeply thrilling fantasy story that is wonderfully written and deliciously addictive with action, adventure and romance woven into it's pages!

Seventeen year old Ruby is a Fireblood and someone who has spent her life hiding her powers of heat and flame. Living in a land of ruling Frostbloods and a brutal Frostblood king who is known for his cruelty and malice, Ruby knows she would be killed if her powers are ever discovered. So when her mother is murdered at the hands of a Frostblood captain as she tries to protect Ruby, Ruby's whole world changes. Imprisoned and heartbroken, Ruby agrees to work with a group of Frostblood rebels who rescue her and want to use her powers of fire to destroy the King. Agreeing to kill the rampaging King seems like an easy decision, but as Ruby grapples with her unreliable powers and her unexpected attraction to one of the rebels, a mysterious and infuriating young man named Arcus, Ruby will need to embrace all that she is if her has any hope of saving herself and her people from a tyranical King whose powers aren't what they seem....

Frostblood was a highly impressive debut novel! Elly Blake sets the pace well and weaves an effortless fantasy tale that is exciting, romantic and delicious from beginning to end. Introducing a vivid and compelling world I'm seriously looking forward to seeing more of, Frostblood features a strong and likable protagonist in Ruby who is well rounded, fiery (pun totally intended) and compelling.

Blake supports Ruby with a great cast of characters and personalities who brought life to the story and made me want more. The relationship between Ruby and Arcus is an understandably highlight of the novel, as the two feature a delectable chemistry. It was wonderfully seeing Elly Blake build their connection naturally over time. I was addicted to the stolen moments between them that were electric and promising.

Considering all the developments in this novel, Elly Blake really has set the stage well for the rest of the series. There are plenty of developments and revelations in the final few chapters of the story to set up the next installment and following tales. Personally I think Frostblood finishes really well and whether we follow Ruby and Arcus again in the next novel, or have the chance to explore some of the other characters (maybe Marella?) Blake has definitely found a fan in me.

A stellar debut that thoroughly entertains and satisfies, Frostblood is a fantasy tale that I highly recommend and leaves me ready to see what Elly Blake writes next!
