Book Shelf: Wallbanger (Cocktail #1) by Alice Clayton

The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she's gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women.

And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly...

In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight...

Review:

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton is a delightfully fun and flirty rom-com that is sizzling with sexual tension and laugh out loud funny at times. It’s Sex & the City meets chick-lit as Alice Clayton introduces readers to a biting heroine named Caroline and the man who drives her crazy.

After having it sit on my shelf for a quite a while, I have to say I’m glad I finally got around to reading this book. Wallbanger sits on the border between NA and women’s fiction but is so deliciously funny and addictive that I found myself speeding through its pages; lost to the back and forth banter between the main characters and hankering to see them get together.

Wallbanger is a well written and witty novel that follows twenty-six year old Caroline Reynolds, a spunky and capable interior designer whose world is turned upside down when she moves into a new apartment, only to find herself kept constantly awake at night by her neighbors late night activities with a string of women that make Caroline’s own love life seem very vanilla. However when Caroline eventually meets Mr. Wallbanger himself, sparks fly and soon Caroline and her neighbor find themselves in a sensual dance of romance that is guaranteed to make readers smile.

As far as storyline’s go, Wallbanger is quite basic but boy is it entertaining! Alice Clayton introduces us to Caroline, a strong and independent womanand I say woman because that is what she is; she’s not a girland she certainly doesn’t need a man in her life. And yet that doesn’t stop her from wanting Simon. This secure and powerful interior designer has her own life, her own friends and is quite happy on her own, for the most part. Her sex life is on the down low, but when she meets Simon suddenly parts of her reawake and as the two of them get to know one another, romance blossoms.

I have to say I really liked the way Clayton has written this novel. It was equal parts funny, flirty and sensual with plenty of friendship, sexual tension and witty dialogue. Our main character has a sharp tongue and is extremely intelligent. She has great friends who compliment the story wonderfully. From her boss Jillian to her BFF’s, Sophia and Mimi who find themselves in miss-matched relationships but who make for some hilarious reading as they both slowly discover what was in front of them all alongAlice Clayton has written some awesome girl power with these women!

Even Simon and his friends seem perfectly paired as a love interest for each of Caroline’s best friends. Alice Clayton has written some fun and different individuals in this novel including Caroline’s cat Clive who is without a doubt a personable character on his own.

Wallbanger features plenty of sizzling sexual tension of the best kind with Caroline and Simon lighting up the pages with their chemistry and banter. I adore how their relationship built from friendship, but Clayton still managed to play up their attraction and chemistry without things moving too fast. Caroline and Simon just fit and I immensely adored seeing them come to care for the other even as the attraction they felt was undeniable. Clayton manages to steer them towards an adorable romance that once ignited races towards some extremely sensual and powerful sex scenes when they eventually get to that part of their relationship towards the end of the book.

Excellently paced and evolved, Wallbanger is my first Alice Clayton novel, but I can guarantee it won’t be my last! With a great storyline, fantastic character dynamic and a satisfying ending to this part of Caroline and Simon’s story, I can’t wait to read the next book!
