Review:

In the tradition of an Abbi Glines novel, Emma James debut tale A Little Faith is an emotional and driven story of friendship, loss and the potential moving on can bring. Featuring five luscious male specimens and a likable heroine, A Little Faith is a great start to a promising new NA series!

I have to be honest here, A Little Faith is a hard book to review for me, predominately because I know the author personally through blogging and the world of books. I went into this novel hopeful, but also wanted to keep an open and unbiased mind. So in saying that, I was really liked A Little Faith and I was impressed with the amount of emotion author Emma James managed to convey in her debut. The opening chapter tugged on my heart strings and made me feel, as we witness the loss of an individual who was young and living their life in a horrendous event. As the novel progresses you come to understand the impact such a loss and the event that caused it had on the lives of a group of young people.

A Little Faith is told through varying POV’s, including that of main character Faith and see’s Faith head to Ocean Beach, a beach side suburb to visit the best friends of her brother Chance. Now I don’t want to give away spoilers, but Faith is still reeling from a devastating loss years prior and hopes this visit will give her what she needs to be able to move on and come to terms with her grief.

While the book does centre predominately around Faith, A Little Faith also introduces us to Harley, Text, Retro, Keanu and Levi, the best friends of Faith’s brother Chance, men whose lives were tremendously impacted when tragedy struck. Personally I really liked all the guys and found them to have their own unique personalities and traits. A Little Faith focusing solely around the lives of these characters and seeing them live is actually quite interesting—they’ve made a lot of themselves and I enjoyed seeing how James works the dynamics of their relationships together.

There’s a lot of possibility for future books, with each main character deserving of their own tale as well as some of the minor characters like Retro’s sister Phoenix and bartender Slade. I’m really interested to see each character fall in love with Retro the first with his Birdie and the others soon to follow if the first book is any indication of what James has planned.

A Little Faith is a fun and flirty start to a new NA series as well as a great debut. While the characters are already very well rounded, they have even more potential for future storylines and as author Emma James leaves this novel with readers beginning to find themselves invested in the lives of her characters, I for one look forward to seeing what happens next!

From Legacy.....

The first time I saw Quin, I was on the edge of sleep, thinking of my mother. She would read to me every night, then run her fingers through my hair until I fell asleep. That world, the world containing my mother, had died so long ago—was it really only twenty days?—that sometimes I believed it had happened to someone else, not me. When I thought of my old life, I imagined it far above me, like a child’s lost balloon. At first there was the hope of grabbing it, recovering it, bringing it safely back to the clutches of my hand. Then it was out of reach, and I could only watch it and wonder where it would go. Finally, the tiny dot of it disappeared, and I realized it was never mine to begin with.

I sat upright, nearly hitting my head on the desk—a graffitied table hidden in the library’s stacks—where I slept. At first, I thought it was a dream. How long had I been sleeping? A pinprick of light darted across the library floor. I held my breath.

In the twenty days, now twenty-one, that I had been in the library, a small brown bird fluttering near the doorway had been the only sign of life. I heard muffled footsteps and a click-click-click sound, like nails tapping on glass.

Cursing myself for getting too comfortable, I fumbled for the backpack my mother had given to me, rifling hurriedly through its contents—a few remaining cans of food and granola bars, a flashlight, a map of the city, a wad of money that had so far been useless, a change of clothing, and toothpaste—until I found it . . . the gun. When I slept, I usually kept it close to me, but tonight, of all nights, I had forgotten.

I positioned myself behind the metal stacks, concealing the gun close to my side. It was heavy and cold. My mother had taught me to use it, but firing a weapon seemed like something that someone else would do, some other version of me. Still, I told myself that I was prepared to. I had to be.

Book Shelf: Touch of Frost (Mythos Academy #1) by Jennifer Estep

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy; a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest. But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos.

First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why; especially since I should have been the one who died...

Review:

Touch of Frost is a fascinating start to a fast paced and promising YA series from Urban Fantasy author Jennifer Estep. Laced with Greek, Roman and Norse myth, Touch of Frost introduces readers to a beguiling school of magic, warriors and unexpected dangers, where gods and goddesses come alive and one girl is about to discover a destiny she never expected she had.....

Touch of Frost follows Gwen Frost, a student at Mythos Academy, a school that trains it's students to be warriors. A smart mouthed and snappy Gypsy, Gwen is different from her classmates, the majority of which are rich and powerful. Featuring decedents of gods, goddesses and all kind of mythical individuals, Mythos Academy sees Valkyries, Amazons, Spartans, Vikings and more scatter it's halls. Mythos Academy is a formidable place to learn but Gwen's lack of natural ability and coordination where fighting and all things mythological are concerned see her become a loner who keeps to herself. However, when a popular and prominent student is murdered and Gwen finds the body, the lack of interest by the student population make Gwen take action into her own hands as she sets out to discover why the girl was killed and a powerful magical artifact stolen.....

Man, Touch of Frost was a seriously fun novel to read! Honestly, I've had a copy of this book for almost three years and I can't believe I waited so long to read it! From the moment I started this book I was hooked. I know there are some mixed reviews out there, but this was just plain fun. Admittedly, Jennifer Estep's writing isn't the best I've read, but the intriguing world she's introduced me to and her smart, sassy heroine have completely won me over. The story was fast paced and there was plenty happening, with main character Gwen taking on a detective role of sorts when she begins investigating the death of a classmate with unexpected results.

Gwen was a great heroine to follow and I honestly love her already. I foresee her becoming truly kick-ass if Touch of Frost is anything to go by and I can't wait to see where Estep takes her. Gwen's inner monologue makes for some really fun reading and her easy desire to investigate the death of someone she barely knew makes me think highly of her. Gwen is smart, quick thinking, and though a tad insecure, comfortable in who she is. She's very likable, with a unique and riveting voice.

The school of Mythos Academy Jenner Estep has created makes me think of a blend of Hogwarts meets the world of Percy Jackson. This makes for a fantastic and promising setting that leads a lot to the aura of the novel. Gothic and dark, Mythos Academy is not your typical high school with it's students of the mythical variety. Typical teen drama weave together with magic and age old wars to create a mysterious campus.

The characters within this novel are already starting to win me over also. Gwen obviously stands out, as does her possible love interest, Logan Quinn a fierce and formable Spartan whose reputation as a womanizing bad boy is tested when compared to the sweet way he treats Gwen at times. Estep promises lots of heartbreak and difficulty for these two if Touch of Frost is anything to go by, but I look forward to future novels where they're concerned. Gwen also finds a completely unexpected friend in the form of a mean girl who starts off as an almost enemy, but proves to be not what she seems. Daphne was awesome! And her and Gwen are just great to read about---I think we're seeing the start of a wonderful friendship between these two!

When the murder of a student is discovered to be the start of a much bigger plan to release an imprisoned god whose previous actions almost destroyed the world, Gwen unexpectedly discovers a secret about her heritage that make it clear she'll have a major role in the upcoming war the bad guys are gung-ho on starting. Estep sets things up perfectly and I'm very eager to get my hands on the next book, stat! A great kick-off to a new urban fantasy series!

Review:

Cambria Hebert's latest release #Nerd is an extremely addictive and fun novel that weaves together a beautiful tale of romance between two characters you can't help but love!

Told through the dual POV's of collage students, Rimmel and Romeo, #Nerd follows two very different individuals who find themselves falling for someone on the other side of the social track as Cambria Hebert writes an adorable story of friendship, romance and unexpected love. When nerd and self proclaimed loner Rimmel is selected to tutor Romeo, a popular and womanizing jock who is failing many of his subjects, the last thing either expects to find is a kindred spirit in the other.

And yet, when a challenge to get into a fraternity sees Romeo set out to win Rimmel over, the two of them find themselves in the middle of an unexpected romance as Rimmel surprises Romeo with her quiet and unpretentious nature--a far cry from the woman he usually spends his time with. Soon, what started out as a way to get into a fraternity becomes so much more as this charming and charismatic young man finds himself falling in love with a nerd.....

#Nerd truly was a fun book to read. Both Rimmel and Romeo are great characters to follow and although they're both so different, Cambria Hebert manages to have them compliment each other so perfectly. The storyline was simple, but so addictive. From the moment we are introduced to Rimmel and Romeo, I found myself absorbed in their romance. Obviously, you know what's going to happen to an extent, but that didn't make it any less exciting seeing these two people stumble through falling for each other.

Rimmel is awkward and clumsy and so very endearing. Reserved and quietly intelligent, she's such a sweet girl and it's impossible not to love her. Romeo on the other hand is cocky and self assured, completely aware of his looks and what he does to people. They see like polar opposites and in a lot of ways they are, but their relationship just works. Romeo manages to bring out another side to Rimmel; helping her become more confidant and comfortable in who she is, and Rimmel accepts Romeo for who he is without wanting anything from him, something he's not quite used to.

Their romance is sweet and endearing with plenty of chemistry. Hebert knows exactly how to explore their relationship at a perfect pace; giving readers exactly what they want without going too fast or holding too much back. I liked that Rimmel and Romeo got to know each other as they fell in love and Cambria Hebert chose to wait to explore their physical relationship until later in the novel.

High in romance and rich delectable chemistry, #Nerd is a great start to a promising new NA series and I'm looking forward to seeing it continue in the next novel. Cambria Hebert has made me fall in love with Rimmel and Romeo; now I'm ready for more!
